The Health My Way initiative is pioneering a new model of empowering individuals with access to their health information to inform and improve the health services they receive.

Key Program Principles

Build on the continent-wide mobile infrastructure that has put more than 800 million phones in the hands of Africans and sparked dramatic changes in how the continent banks and manages its money, communicates, lives, and works.

Put the individual at the center of health care as a holder of his/her own data and an active participant in creating his/her own health.

Put youth at the forefront of the project as primary users of mobile-based technology, innovators, and beneficiaries of better jobs and better health.

About Health My Way

The goal of the initiative is to promote a person-centric model of healthcare delivery by putting the individual at the center of health care and health information exchange, leveraging open standards and building on an existing digital infrastructure. The Health My Way Initiative aims to scale across the continent.

It is one of Smart Africa’s flagship projects and is championed by the Government of Rwanda. Other partners include the East African Community as well as tech enablers in countries where the initiative has kicked off including Oracle in Senegal and HISP-Rwanda in Rwanda.
